Simple buying or order control
For an occasional purchase, both simple interfaces let you review the quote and charges before accepting. Kraken publishes a 1% instant trading fee alongside its spread. Coinbase calculates each transaction’s fee and displays its spread; compare the crypto received for the same outlay, asset and time.
For order-based trading, Pro and Advanced distinguish maker from taker. An immediately matched limit order may be taker. Order type and market depth affect the outcome as well as commission.
Comparing pricing
Kraken Pro’s starting ordinary spot tier is 0.40% maker and 0.80% taker. In Coinbase Advanced, consult your account’s rates, tier requirements and pair. The help centre explains the model and where to see the figures; do not confuse it with Coinbase Exchange or legacy Pro.
For recurring purchases, compare simple buying with an order-book transaction you can actually execute. A low advertised percentage alone does not include market spread, slippage or payment-method costs.
Client provider and execution venue
EEA Kraken core services are contracted with PESL; its execution policy routes orders to PGSL. Coinbase Luxembourg acts as broker, placing orders on Coinbase Exchange or using other venues and liquidity providers under its policy.
Executing client orders and operating the venue are distinct activities. A client-facing entity not being a venue operator does not itself demonstrate a lack of spot authorisation. Euro e-money balances belong to Irish entities separate from crypto custody.
Funding and withdrawing euros
Kraken lists free incoming SEPA and €1 withdrawal providers, subject to terms and minimums. At Coinbase, review your account’s method, instructions and charge before the transfer; do not transplant another product’s table. For crypto withdrawals, compare the same network and asset on both confirmation screens.
Matching the mode to your use
Someone seeking a locked purchase quote can compare both simple interfaces. Someone needing order and liquidity control should compare Pro with Advanced, including the actual account tier. For small deposits or cash-outs, add banking costs: a fixed euro charge may outweigh a few tenths of a trading percentage. Review custody and asset restrictions in the profiles separately from price.
