Bitstamp: order book and basic buying.

Bitstamp Europe S.A. has different pricing for its order book, basic buying and cards. Compare each mode alongside its withdrawal cost.

Who it fits

Bitstamp publishes the order book and the basic buy on one page. It is useful for comparing spot on a platform authorised in Luxembourg with a buy that uses a fixed spread. A card purchase is a different, higher price.

Entity

Bitstamp Europe S.A., 40 avenue Monterey, L-2163 Luxembourg, LEI 549300XIBGTJ0PLIEO72. The CSSF lists it as crypto-asset service provider N00000003, authorised on 15 May 2025. ESMA lists an intention to provide the service across the EEA, including Spain. The United Kingdom and the United States are other companies.

Services on the permission

The register includes custody, venue operation, exchange, execution, reception and transmission, and transfers. Venue authorisation describes its operating model; it is not a universal quality measure against an authorised broker.

A company notice for a 15 October 2026 change says some existing retail accounts of Bitstamp Europe S.A. in the EEA and Switzerland are invited into the Robinhood app, and that the Luxembourg company remains the provider. Switzerland is not on the ESMA list. If that invitation reaches you, read which contract you are accepting.

The book and the basic buy

Below $10,000 of 30-day volume, the standard book charges 0.30% maker and 0.40% taker. The table keeps stepping down, to 0.00% and 0.03% on the last tier. An order that fills immediately is taker; one that rests on the book is maker. FX and stablecoin pairs, and USDT pairs, have lower tables, and only part of their volume counts toward the tier.

The basic buy adds a fixed spread of 0.5% on stablecoins and 1.8% on everything else, plus a volatility spread of 0% to 0.5%. Paying by card, Google Pay or Apple Pay on an instant purchase is 4%, and the issuer can add more. The published minimum order is €10, 0.0002 BTC or 0.002 ETH.

The schedule effective 21 October 2026 separates access through the Robinhood platform: for Bitstamp Europe S.A. clients it lists 0.95% of executed euro value, minimum €0.01, with an exception for EURC buying and selling. That mode does not use the other Bitstamp rates in this schedule; third parties or affiliates may charge for other services. The provider announces another schedule for 24 November 2026.

Deposits and withdrawals

A SEPA deposit is free. A SEPA withdrawal costs €3. An incoming international wire is 0.05%, with a published minimum and maximum; an outgoing one is 0.1%, with a minimum, and the bank may charge more. Crypto deposits are free. A crypto withdrawal is variable — a network estimate plus a Bitstamp processing fee — and is shown before you confirm. The schedule has no fixed BTC or ETH figure.

Custody

In its guide, Bitstamp says the customer keeps legal title, that Bitstamp is the custodian and that it charges no safekeeping fee. The same page also says customer assets are 100% held in custody with a custodian and remain available to withdraw, with a possible delay if the firm becomes insolvent. Those are two sentences from the same source: read them together and, if you open an account, the custody agreement.

What to check

Confirm that sign-up is with Bitstamp Europe S.A. and not the UK or US company. See whether your account has moved to the Robinhood app and which entity signs. And choose deliberately between the 1.8% basic buy, the 4% card purchase and the 0.30%/0.40% book: they are not the same product.
