Who it fits
Bitvavo is aimed at someone who trades in euros against a book, with a low published entry fee. A market order, or any order that matches immediately, pays taker; a limit order that rests on the book pays maker.
Entity and address
Bitvavo B.V., Chamber of Commerce 68743424, LEI 724500MX2WBKDJP9HE56. The AFM records it as number 41000010, an Article 63 CASP authorisation dated 26 June 2025. The address does not match across sources: the terms say Keizersgracht 281, 1013 ED; the AFM and the help centre, 1016 ED; ESMA, Keizersgracht 28. Use the one in your contract.
Authorised platform and accepted countries
ESMA and Bitvavo’s terms describe custody and administration, venue operation and transfers. MiCA defines a venue as a multilateral system bringing together third-party buying and selling interests. That activity differs from exchanging with proprietary capital or executing client orders: blank entries for those other services do not make this order book unauthorised.
Authorisation scope and the countries accepted for new accounts are separate checks. The help-centre residence list dated 1 October 2026 includes Spain and Germany, but not Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Hungary, Iceland or Liechtenstein. This profile retains that onboarding list rather than extending availability to the full passport.
The book fee
On euro markets, from €0 of volume, maker is 0.15% and taker 0.25%. Lower tiers start at €100,000 and above, down to 0.00% and 0.02% on the last. Stablecoin-pair volume does not count toward the tier. USDC markets start at 0.05% and 0.05%. A limit order reserves up to 0.25% and returns the difference if your tier is lower.
Deposits and withdrawals
SEPA, iDEAL/Wero and Bancontact are listed at €0, with caps on the last two. Apple Pay, Google Pay, card and PayPal add 1%, up to €10,000. EPS is 1.75% on the fee page and 0% in another help article: the two Bitvavo pages disagree, so read the amount before you deposit.
Withdrawing euros to a bank carries no Bitvavo fee. Crypto deposits are free. Crypto withdrawals depend on the network. On the day this was read, Bitcoin was listed at 0.000018 BTC and Ethereum at 0.00036 ETH, with a 0.00051 ETH minimum. Recovering a transfer sent on the wrong network, where Bitvavo can attempt it, is €50.
Custody
The terms say client funds and digital assets are held through a Dutch foundation, separate from Bitvavo’s, and do not form part of a bankruptcy estate. The user has a claim against the foundation. Crypto-assets sit in omnibus wallets that do not hold the company’s own crypto, with a register of positions. The help centre adds that Stichting Bitvavo Payments holds customer digital currency in an omnibus account, mostly in cold wallets, and that a hot-wallet balance is kept for withdrawals.
What to check before opening an account
Check your residence against the onboarding list, confirm that the pair uses the EUR pricing you compared, and establish whether the order will be maker or taker. Review staking, lending or margin terms separately; the spot venue authorisation does not by itself establish coverage for those other services.
