Exchange review

Revolut: fee, spread and custody.

Revolut does not publish a single maker/taker price here. The app combines an exchange rate, a fee that depends on the plan and a spread. This profile separates those pieces and RDAEL’s custody.

Editorial overview

Who it fits

It fits if you already use the app and want the published fee next to the spread, rather than comparing it with an order book as if they were the same thing. On Standard and Plus the PDF’s first tier is 1.49%, and the product spread can add more.

RDAEL’s PDF 1.0.4 charges Standard and Plus the greater of a minimum and the 30-day volume tier. The first published tier is 1.49%, and the PDF’s amount table is in pounds; it points to local-currency equivalents that this profile does not copy. Ultra starts at 0.49% in the same PDF. The product spread is also one-sided and typically 0% to 3%. Standard adds a 1% fair-usage fee above the plan limit; the PDF’s example uses €1,000 across bank, crypto and commodities. This is not every plan’s price.

Custody

RDAEL nominee; the PDF charges no custody fee.

The terms say RDAEL is nominee: it holds legal title and the client is the beneficial owner. Positions may sit in omnibus virtual accounts and a sub-custodian may be used. The safeguarding summary segregates client assets from RDAEL’s own, describes app execution against RDAEL and a client platform on Revolut X, and says RDAEL does not custody fiat. It also describes a register where some operational assets coincide with Revolut Ltd’s.

Deposits and withdrawals

Fee, tier and spread

Standard and Plus pay the greater of a minimum and the tier. The first tier is 1.49%. Ultra, in the same PDF, starts at 0.49%. The PDF’s amount steps are in pounds and point to local currency. The product spread is one-sided and the text says it is typically 0% to 3%: a 1% example on a €100 mid price pays €101 when buying or receives €99 when selling. Standard can add a 1% fair-usage fee above the limit; the example combines €1,000 across the bank, crypto and commodities.

Deposits and withdrawals

The PDF does not charge for custody or deposits. Withdrawing crypto adds a service fee of £1 or equivalent for XRP, XLM, DOT, SOL, AVAX, XTZ, ALGO and ADA, and £3 or equivalent for the rest, plus the network. The total is shown before confirmation. It is not a euro SEPA fee: euro in the bank account is another contract.

Custody

The terms have you appoint RDAEL as nominee. The company holds legal title and you hold the beneficial interest. Positions may share omnibus accounts and a sub-custodian may be used, with no direct contract with you. The safeguarding summary says client assets are segregated from RDAEL’s, that RDAEL does not hold fiat and that some operational assets may coincide with Revolut Ltd’s if the register distinguishes them.

What to check before opening an account

Look at the plan, the tier and the spread the app shows before you accept. If you live in Poland or Germany, open that country’s fee page: this profile does not claim the PDF is identical there. Hungary is outside the service list used here. The comparison with Crypto.com’s 0.8% is on the two-app page.
