What to check first

Copying involves more than selecting a return figure and pressing a button. Connect trader selection, position sizing, limits, charges and termination so you can understand what happens in your account.

1. Choose a trader by their process, not just a return figure

First understand the contracts and exposure you would follow.

In the app open Copy and Futures Copy Trading. Explore Market board, Top Picks or search for a particular nickname before opening setup. Review the metric period, history, positions and terms shown by the profile. A headline percentage without duration or exposure cannot establish a useful comparison. The BTCC review places copying within the platform.

Read historical returns alongside interim losses, concentration and trade frequency. Following a few long-held positions differs from following many daily entries. Top Picks is not a guarantee, and a winning history does not establish future profitability. Use the copy-trading ranking to compare product workflows.

2. Choose fixed or proportional sizing before allocating funds

The parameter’s unit determines the size of each copied position.

BTCC documents Fixed Margin and Proportional Margin. The first allocates specified collateral per trade; the second follows a proportion of the lead position under the product’s settings. Read whether the field refers to margin or position value before entering a number: scaling notional is different from allocating that amount as collateral.

Sizing decisions
SettingInterpretation
Fixed marginCollateral per trade, not total budget.
ProportionRelationship to the trader’s reference size.
MaximumCap on margin allocated to the relationship.
LeverageReview resulting exposure and copying terms.

Original hypothetical example: allocate USDT 25 per trade with a maximum of 100. Four positions using that allocation reach the theoretical cap, subject to balance and contract rules. This guarantees neither four fills nor a USDT 25 total loss limit: margin mode, charges and balance changes matter. For proportional sizing, calculate each entry against its reference instead of dividing the cap by a fixed number.

3. Review existing positions, contracts and protection

The initial summary should also explain what may be copied immediately.

Inspect Copy Ongoing Positions before activation: existing positions may be copied at current prices, different from the lead entry. Also check selected contracts and whether Auto Update will add new pairs. Leaving a default unchanged is not the same as deciding which exposure you want.

Advanced Settings includes relationship loss controls and per-order TP/SL. Read what happens to remaining positions when copying stops and which settings each protection follows. BTCC’s TP/SL tutorial distinguishes triggering from execution; a protection does not guarantee its final price. Check the account used: BTCC demo trading does not reproduce copying.

4. Budget trading fees, funding and profit sharing

The lead trader’s result and your net balance change need not match.

Separate execution charges, funding on held positions and profit sharing with the lead trader. The FAQ publishes a 10–15% share determined by the leader’s ratio and settlement rules. Check the profile and settlement terms rather than applying a remembered percentage to any floating result.

Hypothetical example: a service-calculated distributable-profit base of USDT 60 at an applicable 12% share produces USDT 7.20. This arithmetic does not define the settlement base or forecast profit. Reconcile it against recorded charges so they are not deducted twice. The funding guide covers the periodic component.

5. Monitor positions and understand a failed copy

Following the same trader does not guarantee matching prices, sizes or results.

After activation inspect My Copy Trades and the copied positions, separated from manual trades in the futures environment. Compare fills, pending orders, used margin and remaining funds. Do not add capital merely because the leader opened another position: identify the applicable limit and your original budget first. BTCC deposits covers funding preparation.

Copying can fail because of insufficient funds, contract minimum size, price differences or trade constraints. Replenishing funds does not establish that every missed entry will be replayed. Read the status and reason before retrying; manually reproducing a missed trade creates a separate order. Keep identifiers and timestamps for any support review.

6. End the relationship and inspect remaining positions

Stopping following and having no exposure are separate checks.

The documented app route is My Copy Trades → My Traders; choose the trader and open Copy Management. Confirm termination in its settings. Before accepting, read how that workflow treats open positions. Do not assume cancellation instantly flattens everything or cancels unrelated manual account orders.

Then inspect outstanding contracts, exits and unsettled profit sharing. Reconcile realised results and usable funds. If any position remains outside the relationship, understand how it will close; BTCC futures trading explains that control. Record why you stopped instead of explaining every performance difference with one profile metric.

Final checklist

Review these points before taking the next step.

  • Trader and period reviewed.
  • Sizing unit understood.
  • Total cap defined.
  • Existing-position and Auto Update options checked.
  • Costs and termination understood.

Common mistakes

Small checks for a more considered decision.

Following a percentage alone

Past performance needs time-period and exposure context.

Assuming everything is closed

Inspect positions and orders after termination.

Replenishing without checking

Identify a failed copy’s cause before increasing allocation.

FAQs

Does this copy spot purchases?

No. This product copies futures trading and may hold leveraged positions.

Does the maximum guarantee a loss limit?

No. It is an allocation setting; inspect margin, positions, charges and protection.

Why does my result differ from the lead?

Sizing, entry time, prices, missed fills and charges can differ.

Does cancellation always close everything?

Do not assume it: read the confirmation and inspect remaining positions.
