How to calculate a transaction’s total cost.

Add buying, funding and exit costs for the same amount and service. One percentage does not describe everything you pay.

The costs to include

Distinguish trading commission, a spread built into a quote, cash funding, euro cash-out and crypto transfers. On an order book, bid–ask spread and slippage can affect price without appearing as a fee. Simple buying and maker/taker orders are different modes.

Example: buy, sell and withdraw €1,000

Illustrative assumptions: a €1,000 SEPA deposit; one BTC/EUR purchase and a later sale, both taker at the starting tier; unchanged price. Fees reduce each transaction’s value. There is no card, discount or crypto withdrawal; market spread and slippage are omitted to isolate fees.

Bitvavo: a 0.25% purchase fee is €2.50. The remaining €997.50 is sold; €997.50 × 0.25% = €2.49375. Bitvavo does not charge for euro cash-outs. You recover approximately €995.01, giving a calculated cost of €4.99.

Kraken Pro: a 0.80% purchase fee is €8. Selling the remaining €992 at 0.80% costs €7.936. Using one of the listed €1 SEPA withdrawal providers leaves approximately €983.06, giving a calculated cost of €16.94.

The example rounds at the end; a provider may round individual charges. It isolates these rates rather than forecasting price changes or guaranteeing a real transaction’s cost. Another network, pair, tier, payment provider or purchase mode changes the calculation.

When pricing depends on a quote

For Coinbase Simple Trade, record outlay, fee, spread and crypto received in the preview. For Advanced, consult your account tier. For OKX simple buying or a Bitpanda quote, likewise compare the final result; do not add a premium again when it is already included in the price.

Keep the comparison equivalent

Use the same asset, currency and amount, and separate maker from taker orders. Add only the funding and exit method you would actually use. A crypto withdrawal needs another cost line; this example sells the asset and withdraws euros, so there is no blockchain transfer fee.
