Crypto cards
The virtual and physical cards share an account but have different setup steps. This guide walks through applying, taking delivery and choosing how to fund a payment.
You can prepare for an online purchase with the virtual card while waiting for delivery. Choose how to fund spending first and order the physical card when you need plastic or a chip terminal.
Have your phone, valid ID and residential address ready. Any requested address evidence must show your name, address and date.
The virtual card needs funds or credit to pay. Choose your mode and asset order before using it; the physical card is a separate order.
First check whether Cash accepts personal applications in your country of residence.
Have a phone you can access during setup and a valid government-issued ID ready. Verification accepts a passport, national ID or driving licence, depending on the options offered for your application. Prepare your full residential address too: it should match the information you can document.
If proof of address is requested, a utility bill or bank statement can qualify when it shows your name and address and is less than three months old. A screenshot or mobile phone bill does not meet the published requirements. Check the document options in the form before uploading.
Decide whether you need a physical card straight away. You can use the virtual card for online purchases once your application is approved and funding is ready. Check the physical card’s delivery address separately, because an order cannot be edited after confirmation.
Create an account with ether.fi, open Cash → Cards → Add Card and start the personal application.
Go to ether.fi and create your account. Open Cash, visit Cards and use Add Card to start the application. This guide’s “Get the card” button opens ether.fi to continue the process. If you already have an account, continue with it and check the application status before starting another.
Enter your phone number and the one-time code you receive. Complete your personal details, including your residential address. Photograph a valid document with all edges visible and no glare obscuring the text. Then follow the liveness check and selfie instructions so your identity can be matched.
Answer the issuer questionnaire if it appears and provide any additional documents requested. Approval is required before a card can be issued. While the application is under review, check its status in the app. If an image is rejected, correct its legibility or framing before resubmitting.
After approval, open the Cards area in Cash and select the virtual card.
After approval, open Cards and select the virtual card to view its details. Enter them in an online shop’s payment form as you would with another card. Before paying, make sure your chosen funding mode has enough available balance or borrowing capacity.
In card settings you can review the daily limit. Also check the Vault’s daily and monthly limits: the first limit reached constrains spending. For example, a generous card limit does not override a lower limit set for the account as a whole.
For phone payments, add the card to Apple Pay or Google Pay where your device and service availability support it. If you need another virtual card, check your tier’s allowance and the quoted price before creating it. Issuing more cards does not add funds to the account.
In Cards, choose Add Card and select the physical option.
In Cash, open the card-ordering option, select Add Card and then Physical Card. Review issuance, delivery and your tier’s allowance before confirming. Use a delivery address rather than a PO box, written with supported Latin characters.
Check the name, street, house number, unit and postal code. The order’s address cannot be changed after submission. If the app cannot find it, the documented options include searching for the address or entering it manually through Change this address and Enter address manually.
Once the order is processed, check tracking in the physical card details where available. On delivery, open Cash → Card, select that card and choose Activate Physical Card. Follow the PIN setup before using a terminal or ATM that requests it.
For cash, use a compatible Visa ATM. A virtual card may also work at contactless ATMs through Apple Pay or Google Pay, but still needs a PIN. Declined attempts count towards the attempt limit, so check your PIN and available funds before retrying.
Open the payment mode selector before your first purchase.
Choose Direct Pay when you want a purchase to use an available balance. Set the spending priority among supported assets such as USDC, USDT, EURC, liquidUSD and liquidEUR. If you want to keep USDC for another purpose and spend EURC first, check the order before purchasing.
Check that any deposit asset and network are supported for your account before sending funds. Your Vault balance and the amount available to spend may differ with the asset, mode and limits. Direct Pay deducts an eligible balance without borrowing interest.
With Borrow Mode, a purchase uses credit backed by eligible Vault assets. Review the variable rate and the collateral backing the debt before spending. Interest starts when you borrow, with no grace period. Switching the mode for future purchases does not repay existing debt.
If a purchase made in Borrow Mode is refunded, the money returns to the Vault’s main balance. The refund does not automatically cancel the debt: make a loan repayment to reduce it. This distinction matters when returning a purchase while continuing to use the card.
After paying, find the transaction in your activity by merchant and amount.
Find the purchase in activity by merchant and amount. Authorisation and settlement happen at different stages: the final charge may reflect the exchange rate at settlement. Check the currency actually charged, especially if the terminal offered to convert the payment.
On Cashback, a reward for an authorised purchase first appears as pending and calculated in dollars. At settlement it converts to ETHFI and starts a seven-day lock. Once it becomes claimable, use the claim option on that page to receive the tokens in your account.
To understand a rate that differs from expectations, check your tier, accumulated monthly spending, currency and whether the purchase category qualifies. Euro spending has different thresholds but shares the monthly counter with other purchases. ETHFI’s value can change while you wait to claim it.
Check the price of each decision before confirming. Membership tier affects several costs.
Core is the initial tier. You can qualify for Luxe and Pinnacle through supported activity or balances, or buy twelve months for $199 and $999 respectively where available. A paid tier is not required to begin with Core.
Issuance and additional cards depend on allowance and region. A virtual card beyond the allowance costs $10 on Core, Luxe and Pinnacle; VIP has no such charge. The published price schedule for a chargeable physical card is $50, $100, $100 and $0 from Core to VIP. Treat delivery separately and check the final order quote.
For charges outside USD and EUR, the FX schedule adds 0.5% on Core and 0.25% on Luxe; Pinnacle and VIP add no such surcharge. For purchases charged in EUR, ether.fi describes zero markup as a beta feature. A merchant’s own currency conversion can carry a different cost. In Borrow Mode, also check variable interest before financing a purchase.
Review these points before taking the next step.
Small checks for a more considered decision.

Check the physical card order’s delivery address before submitting it.
Borrow Mode creates debt even if you have funds available for Direct Pay.
The virtual card becomes available after approval. The physical card has its own activation and PIN setup when it arrives.
No. Check the address before confirming a physical card order. Before submission, use the app’s change-address or manual-entry options to correct it.
Not automatically. The refund goes to the Vault’s main balance. You need to make a repayment to reduce the debt.
