RedotPay or Wirex: spending stablecoins or linking accounts
RedotPay has a clearly defined proposition: prepare a crypto balance in an app and use a virtual or physical card with paid issuance. Wirex adds linked accounts and EUR transfers through SEPA, with WXT rewards according to plan. The important difference is not which handles more assets, but whether your shopping budget starts in crypto or arrives from a euro bank account.
This page uses RedotPay’s USD programme and Wirex’s EEA terms. The UK, Australia and other Wirex programmes have their own currencies and amounts; their ATM allowances do not transfer to Spain. The RedotPay and Wirex Card reviews cover each service. Here we follow issuance, funding and use for different spending needs.
Starting costs for virtual and physical cards
RedotPay charges USD 10 for virtual and USD 100 for physical. Issuance does not become spendable money. Wirex lists free issuance, with standard EEA physical delivery at EUR 5 or DHL Express at EUR 15. Comparing only a “free” and a “paid” card hides delivery costs and the cost of subsequent use.
For online shopping, compare virtual formats before adding delivery. For ATMs and terminals requiring plastic, assess issuance and shipping once against your expected use. There is no need to invent a break-even point in different currencies: USD 100 issuance and EUR 5 delivery are distinct amounts, not a valid subtraction without an exchange-rate assumption.
From a crypto transfer or SEPA deposit to spending
With RedotPay, you select an asset and network for an app deposit; received funds need to cover the purchase and charges. If funds start in a wallet or exchange, also assess the originating withdrawal cost. Holding stablecoins reduces the need to sell a volatile asset for each purchase, but does not remove the card’s conversion or currency charge.
Wirex works with linked accounts, including at least one fiat account in the documented setup. Its schedule lists EUR SEPA deposits and withdrawals without its own fee. This can simplify a budget already held in euros: receive EUR first and decide separately whether you need to exchange an asset. Wirex’s SEPA fee does not cover every intermediary bank, external card top-up or crypto transfer; those are distinct operations.
Which fee to calculate before paying or withdrawing cash
RedotPay separates 1% crypto conversion from 1.2% outside the default currency. Wirex separates account exchange from the payment: its EEA disclosure distinguishes a 0% stablecoin trading fee from 1.5% for BTC/ETH, without making the quote spread-free. If you already have EUR and spend EUR, do not add a BTC purchase fee for a trade you did not make.
Hypothetical ATM-only example: withdrawing EUR 300 with Wirex EEA before using any monthly allowance leaves EUR 100 subject to 2%, or EUR 2 of Wirex’s own fee. A RedotPay USD withdrawal of USD 300 within its ordinary 2% band produces USD 6. These are not currency-converted equivalent withdrawals; they demonstrate a free allowance versus a fee band charged from the start. ATM operators and conversions can add costs in both cases.
WXT Cryptoback and promotions that are not fixed cashback
Wirex rewards eligible purchases with WXT through Cryptoback. The outcome depends on X-tras plan, tier and exclusions; the advertised maximum is not assigned to every account. Before paying for a plan, compare its price with rewards from your ordinary spending and consider that WXT’s value against the euro can change.
RedotPay’s baseline assessment does not assume permanent cashback. A welcome credit, issuance discount or campaign can be useful, but should not fund a year’s recurring costs in your forecast. What to choose and how to get started
Wirex deserves early comparison when your budget begins in EUR, you want SEPA and need a physical card with lower initial issuance and delivery outlay. RedotPay can fit a separate crypto budget and virtual-only use, provided issuance and conversion are included. For travel, examine the default currency rather than confusing merchant acceptance with zero FX cost.
The RedotPay application guide explains identity checks, ordering and activation; the Wirex Card guide distinguishes linked accounts and formats. Start with the workflow that fits and test a small first purchase instead of ordering two physical cards without a need. The crypto card directory returns to all four options while keeping balance-funded spending separate from collateral-backed credit.
