What to check first

Go from account setup to checking the coins you bought: what to prepare, where funds sit and how to distinguish a spot purchase from a derivatives position.

1. Prepare the right account before signing up

Start by identifying the account product, before choosing a market.

For EEA residents, this guide follows Bybit EU. Elsewhere, use the regional service shown by the provider after entering your actual residence. International registration can route you to a regional site. An older account, its app and its product list do not automatically become an account with another version.

Have an email account you control, a unique password and the device you will use for authentication ready. Check the service name on arrival. The service identified during registration must match the product you intend to use. The Bybit review distinguishes its products and tools.

2. Create and secure your account

Registration and identity verification are separate. Completing the first does not mean funding or trading is ready.

  • Open registration for the appropriate service. Bybit EU supports email or mobile; choose a method you can retain.
  • Enter the requested details and password. Answer residence and restriction questions according to your actual circumstances.
  • Complete the anti-bot check and the email or mobile verification code. Check spam if an email is missing.
  • Set up an authenticator in account security. Preserve its recovery arrangements before funding the account.

Bybit EU requires email and Google Authentication for withdrawals, so configure them before needing an exit. Do not share codes with someone offering assistance or reuse your email password. If you already have an account, recover it rather than opening another to bypass an access problem. See exchange account security for the broader setup.

3. Complete identity verification at the right level

Bybit EU requires standard verification for its services. International account requirements can differ.

Open identity verification from the Bybit EU profile. Prepare a valid ID and use an offered method: its documentation distinguishes quick, bank and video verification. The chosen route can involve document checks, a liveness check and further steps. Complete the profile questionnaire when requested, using your own information.

Advanced verification can require address evidence and provide higher fiat limits; it is not a separate registration. Check application status before sending money. If another review is required or a document is rejected, address the reason shown in the account. There is no guaranteed completion time covering every method and customer.

4. Fund the account and locate spendable funds

Decide whether to start with euros or crypto you already own. These are different funding routes.

Two funding routes
Starting fundsChecks
EUR in Bybit EUAvailable method, bank-account holder, cost and payment reference
CryptoAsset, deposit network, minimum and account confirmation requirements

For euros, generate instructions for an available method and use the current details rather than an old saved IBAN. For crypto, open the asset deposit page, select its network and copy the displayed address. Include a memo or tag if the destination requires one. Do not infer international funding routes or costs from an EEA account.

Bybit EU can show separate Funding and Unified Trading Account balances. If trading requires an internal transfer, check the sending account, receiving account, coin and amount in Transfer. This is an account-balance movement, not a blockchain withdrawal. Frozen funds or collateral may not be transferable. SEPA exchanges helps compare funding options.

5. Buy on spot and inspect the fill

Select a pair quoted in the currency you actually hold. EUR, USDC and USDT are separate balances.

  • Open Spot and find a market available in your account product. Check the base asset and quote currency.
  • Choose Buy. For a first purchase without borrowing, leave margin trading disabled.
  • For Market, review value or quantity; for Limit, also enter the price and allow for the order remaining open.
  • Check the summary before confirmation, then inspect fills, fees and the resulting balance rather than just the submission message.

For example, with a hypothetical EUR 100 balance and a BTC purchase in mind, find an available EUR spot market, such as BTC/EUR on Bybit EU. An unfilled limit order has bought no Bitcoin. A partial fill leaves an outstanding remainder until filled or cancelled. See market and limit orders and where to buy Bitcoin.

6. Check purchase cost, fees and the exit

The order fee is only one part of starting. Funding and withdrawal can add separate charges.

The documented initial Bybit EU spot rate is 0.25%, subject to the relevant tier and product. Applied to a hypothetical EUR 100 notional, that is EUR 0.25 in execution fees before funding or withdrawal costs. It is not a final purchase quote or an automatic rate for international Bybit accounts.

Decide whether to keep the asset on the exchange or transfer it to your wallet. A withdrawal requires a network supported at both ends and an amount meeting the applicable minimum and displayed charge. Futures are not a workaround for a spot purchase, and a promotion does not establish a zero total cost. Continue with withdrawing to a personal wallet.

Final checklist

Review these points before taking the next step.

  • Correct service and residence.
  • Email and authenticator under your control.
  • Required identity checks approved.
  • Funds in the right account and currency.
  • Spot pair, size and cost reviewed.
  • Fills and withdrawal plan checked.

Common mistakes

Small checks for a more considered decision.

Total is not available balance

Open orders or collateral can reserve funds. Inspect the breakdown before depositing again.

Wrong market

A contract with the same symbol does not deliver the coins from a spot purchase.

Registration is not verification

Finishing sign-up is not approval of identity or every funding method.

FAQs

Can I use a global account from the EEA?

Use the service appropriate to your residence and displayed product. An older global account does not establish access to the Bybit EU catalogue.

Why can I see funds but not buy?

Check quote currency, available balance and the account holding funds. Bybit EU may require a transfer between Funding and UTA.

Does cancelling undo a purchase?

Cancellation only stops the unfilled portion. Completed purchases remain in your history and balance.

Do I need leverage to start?

No. Buying spot with your own balance requires neither derivatives nor margin borrowing.
