With euros in the bank, compare Bybit EU’s BTC/EUR book with Kraken Pro or Bitvavo. If you already hold USDT, LBank offers a direct BTC market. The best fit also depends on whether you want bitcoin in your own wallet or need to pay a Lightning invoice.

Choose for the wallet that will receive your bitcoin
For self-custody, the number that matters is the balance that will arrive in your wallet. A cheap trade can deliver less if it requires an extra conversion or if the withdrawal fee takes a sizeable bite out of a small purchase. Bybit EU and Bitvavo let you start with euros. Kraken Pro also lets you choose between a Bitcoin address and a Lightning payment. If you were paid in USDT, LBank gives you a starting point that needs no bank transfer.
Compare before choosing
Buying with euros: Bybit EU, Kraken Pro or Bitvavo
Suppose you buy with €1,000 at the available price. The trading fee alone at Bybit EU’s 0.25% works out to €2.50, the same as Bitvavo’s starting taker rate. At Kraken Pro’s entry tier, 0.80% is €8. The €5.50 gap gives you a threshold: compare the actual price for that size and the cost of delivery to your wallet before ruling out either book. These figures are not bitcoin quotes and exclude withdrawal fees.
If you can wait, the comparison changes. A €1,000 buy that actually adds liquidity would cost €1.50 at Bitvavo and €4 at Kraken Pro on those tiers. A limit order that crosses an existing sell order pays taker fees: setting a maximum price does not buy you the maker rate. Bybit vs Kraken compares the two trading environments in more detail.
Already holding USDT: LBank or international Bybit
Two BTC/USDT books let you compare the same budget without guessing an exchange rate. At LBank, look at the rate for BTC/USDT and the sell orders needed to fill your entire purchase. Its published taker band implies 1 to 2 USDT on a 1,000 USDT fill; you cannot simply choose the bottom of that range. International Bybit’s standard VIP 0 rate of 0.10% works out to 1 USDT. A better ask on either book may be worth more than the fee difference.
Your starting balance changes the answer. Sending USDT from another exchange can cost money at the sending end even though LBank does not charge for the deposit. If you start with euros, include the cost of acquiring the USDT as well. If it is already on the platform, that step drops out. The LBank and Bybit comparison looks at these accounts from the perspective of a funded trader.
Paying over Lightning and holding BTC are different destinations
A self-custody wallet can give you an address to receive BTC on the Bitcoin blockchain. A merchant purchase, on the other hand, might give you a Lightning invoice with an amount and an expiry. These are not interchangeable. Kraken documents both withdrawal methods, which makes it useful if you alternate between payments and storage. Compare the minimum and fee for the route you intend to use; Lightning withdrawals are not automatically free.
Buying spot does not oblige you to withdraw every purchase separately. Grouping purchases can reduce the number of withdrawal charges, at the cost of leaving coins with the exchange for longer. For someone who needs the bitcoin today, that future saving has little value: the relevant figures are the minimum, the network and the balance available to send now.
Which platform suits your next BTC purchase?
For a first purchase from a bank balance, compare the BTC/EUR offers available for your size on Bybit EU and Bitvavo. If the recipient only accepts Lightning, check Kraken’s withdrawal route before worrying about tenths of a percentage point on the book. To turn USDT held on LBank into BTC, compare the satoshis you would receive there with what would remain after moving funds elsewhere. Once you have chosen a venue, the guide to buying bitcoin with euros walks through the purchase.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to buy a whole bitcoin?
No. You can buy a fraction of a bitcoin and compare the purchase by its euro or USDT value. Check the order minimum separately from the withdrawal minimum: a small purchase can fill successfully yet still be too small to send.
Which exchange can pay a Bitcoin Lightning invoice?
Kraken supports Lightning withdrawals. The recipient’s payment request must still be valid and must use Lightning. For an ordinary Bitcoin wallet address, compare the on-chain withdrawal instead.
Is it cheaper to buy BTC with USDT than with euros?
It depends on where your money is. With USDT already available you can compare international books directly. If you must first convert euros and send the stablecoin, those two costs can outweigh the saving on a BTC/USDT order.
