Buying crypto
Buying Ethereum means acquiring ETH rather than opening a position on its price. You can use euros in ETH/EUR or a USDT balance in ETH/USDT, then keep the coins on the exchange or withdraw them to a wallet.
Start with the money you already hold and work towards the place where you want to keep your ETH. A euro order can remove an intermediate conversion; an existing USDT balance creates a different route. Withdrawing through Ethereum and withdrawing through a layer 2 are also different operations. This guide follows the purchase through execution, the net balance and the eventual transfer, keeping exchange charges separate from network gas.
The trading pair identifies both the asset you receive and the currency you spend.
Bybit EU lists ETH/EUR in its European spot directory. This market lets you buy ETH with a euro balance without first acquiring USDT. Its ETH/USDC book provides another quote currency, but it is not the euro route used in this guide. European product conditions should not be replaced with the international Bybit fee schedule.
LBank lists ETH/USDT for spot trading. This route suits an existing USDT balance or a deliberate decision to obtain one first, including the costs of that earlier transaction. A listed USDT pair does not make a bank deposit a direct euro purchase. Read the Bybit review and LBank review for account tools and funding differences, or consult the European exchange comparison before choosing where to keep your balance.

Ethereum is the network; ETH is its native asset.
Buying ETH on spot creates a cryptocurrency balance. You can buy a fraction rather than a whole coin. The amount depends on the execution price and the way the fee is collected. Holding ETH does not automatically start staking or enrol you in an interest product. Those are separate decisions with their own mechanics.
An ETH future or perpetual uses collateral and a contract. It may involve leverage, funding and liquidation, and its notional value is not delivered as withdrawable ETH. A liquid staking token or a representation on another chain is also different from native ETH on Ethereum. For a first purchase intended for holding or withdrawal, choose Spot and ETH without enabling margin. Our spot versus futures guide explains the distinction with practical examples.
An available trading balance comes before the order.
On Bybit EU, open EUR deposits and review the methods offered to your account. Its documentation includes SEPA transfers subject to the channel conditions. Use the beneficiary and reference displayed in your own deposit instructions, check account-holder requirements and wait for the euros to be credited. A bank transfer and a card purchase are different services and may have different charges.
For ETH/USDT on LBank, make USDT available in the trading balance. If transferring it from another platform, generate the destination USDT deposit instructions first and select a network supported at both ends. Do not send USDT to an ETH deposit simply because both assets can use Ethereum. Check minimums and the net amount before confirming. See how to buy USDT and USDC for the earlier step; our euro buying guide covers the checks shared by bank-funded purchases.
The confirmation should identify ETH, the quote currency and the total order amount.
Open Spot, search for ETH/EUR on Bybit EU or ETH/USDT on LBank, and select Buy. Make sure a similarly named futures market has not opened instead. Enter the quote-currency budget or the ETH quantity, according to the form. Review the free balance, order minimum and transaction summary before submitting. Do not rely on the chart alone to establish what you are buying.
A market order takes available liquidity and can fill at several prices. A limit order sets the highest price you will pay for ETH, but may remain open or fill only partially. A limit that crosses the book can still incur a taker fee. Check fills and open orders before submitting again if the balance has not refreshed. Cancelling an unfilled remainder does not reverse the ETH already bought.
Funding, execution and an eventual withdrawal are separate parts of the cost.
Bybit EU publishes a starting VIP 0 spot fee of 0.25%. LBank documents a 0.1–0.2% spot taker range and directs users to the individual pair for the effective rate. That range does not establish one exact ETH/USDT fee without checking the pair. An instant purchase can use a different pricing structure from the order book.
Hypothetical example: at an execution price of €2,000 per ETH, a €400 order buys 0.2 ETH gross. A 0.25% fee on that notional equals €1; if charged in the purchased asset, it would be 0.0005 ETH, leaving 0.1995 ETH. This is not a current price. If €400 is your total budget including charges, adjust the order to your account summary. Spread and slippage can affect the average execution price without appearing as a separate fee line.

The address alone does not prove that you selected the right network.
Open Receive in your wallet and establish which network you intend to use. Then open the exchange ETH withdrawal and select that exact network from the supported options. Many Ethereum-compatible networks use addresses starting with 0x, but the similar format does not make them interchangeable destinations. A lower withdrawal fee is not useful if the receiving service cannot credit that network.
To receive native ETH on Ethereum, select Ethereum at both ends. A layer 2 withdrawal arrives on that layer 2 rather than on mainnet. Moving it elsewhere later may require a bridge and additional costs. Review the charge and net receipt; for a new address, a small test can help if it meets minimums and justifies paying for two withdrawals. Save the transaction identifier and confirm the credit before sending another transfer.
Network gas and an exchange withdrawal charge are different costs.
Ethereum transactions pay gas in ETH. The cost depends on the work performed and network conditions: a simple transfer does not require the same computation as a contract-based swap. Your wallet estimates the charge before signing. There is no fixed euro transfer fee that applies to every ETH transaction.
An exchange withdrawal uses the charge displayed by that exchange, which need not equal the exact gas used by a single transaction. Later, when you send from your own wallet, you pay the network cost of that new operation. Keep some ETH available if you plan to move funds or use applications. Committing all of it without allowing for the next transaction can leave you unable to proceed. Our transfer network guide explains the asset/network distinction, including stablecoin transfers over Ethereum.
Choose custody around your intended use rather than only the last trade price.
Keeping ETH on an exchange makes another trade possible without a new transfer, while leaving custody with the platform. A personal wallet puts keys under your control and makes recovery protection, address checks and signature review your responsibility. Never provide a recovery phrase to supposed support staff; buying ETH does not require sharing it.
Before committing the entire balance to an application, distinguish holding ETH from authorising a contract. An advertised yield is not an automatic property of the coin. Record the date, currency spent, net ETH, fees and later transfers so you can reconstruct the acquisition cost. For another native network, compare buying Solana; for a transfer that may require a destination tag, see buying and sending XRP. These remain different routes even when using the same exchange.
Review these points before taking the next step.
Small checks for a more considered decision.
A price contract does not deliver the same withdrawable balance as spot.
A 0x address can exist on several networks; the receiver must support your selection.
Separate the exchange charge from later transactions signed by your wallet.
Yes. ETH is divisible, so you can enter a budget below the price of a whole coin while respecting market minimums and quantity precision.
Not for ETH/EUR, which uses EUR. ETH/USDT requires USDT and therefore adds a funding step when you start with euros.
A fill inside a spot order book is not a transaction sent from your wallet. Check the trading fee; network operations use gas and exchange withdrawals have their own displayed charge.
Not automatically. It arrives on the selected network. A later move to mainnet may require a bridge and further fees.
