Prepare the wallet, choose a network supported by the exchange and verify the transfer. Receiving an exchange withdrawal at your address does not require connecting MetaMask to a website.
Prepare the wallet, choose a network supported by the exchange and verify the transfer. Receiving an exchange withdrawal at your address does not require connecting MetaMask to a website.
Start from the official MetaMask distribution for your browser or phone, not an extension advertised by a stranger.
A new installation offers account creation or access to an existing wallet. If choosing recovery-phrase setup, store the phrase offline, never in an exchange form or chat. The extension also documents social access methods; retain the credentials required by your chosen method. Do not reinstall or clear data without knowing how to restore access.
Check the account name and address before receiving. This guide focuses on Ethereum and EVM networks. MetaMask also supports other networks, but an EVM address is not automatically a receiving address for those. For a Solana-specific workflow, see the Phantom guide. Self-custody explains control and recovery responsibilities.
Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum and BNB Smart Chain are different networks even when an account shows the same 0x address.
Adding a network changes how you view and interact with that chain. It does not turn Ethereum ETH into Base ETH or move USDT from another chain. For an exchange withdrawal, choose a chain currently supported for that asset. Buying ETH and USDT networks help establish the asset and route first.
The recipient is your account, not a token contract or the address of a connected website.
Copy the MetaMask account address for the chosen chain. On the exchange, open that asset’s withdrawal, paste the address and select the same chain. Check supported network, minimum and net receipt. Where useful, send a test meeting the minimums; an amount too small to process is not a useful check.
A normal incoming transfer requires neither a token approval nor disclosure of your recovery phrase. One example is ETH sent on Ethereum to your Ethereum account. Choosing Base at withdrawal means receipt on Base instead, requiring that network view. It is a different route. See withdrawing to a wallet for the form and test, and Bybit for sender context.
Start with the withdrawal hash, not another send or an arbitrary token contract.
A contract identifies a token for display; it is not your receiving address. Different contracts can share a ticker. If the explorer does not confirm the transfer or shows another recipient, importing a token cannot recover the funds. Do not add unsolicited tokens to unlock a supposed reward; displaying one does not make it legitimate.
Receiving ETH and receiving an ERC20 token create different needs when you send funds onward.
| Network | Usual native gas balance | Check |
|---|---|---|
| Ethereum | ETH on Ethereum | Do not confuse it with ETH on another chain |
| Base / Arbitrum | ETH on the selected network | Ethereum balance does not automatically pay here |
| BNB Smart Chain | BNB on BNB Smart Chain | USDT is not BNB for an ordinary send |
MetaMask also offers gas-included transactions for certain actions, networks and tokens, subject to configuration and an estimate including its own fee. If offered, inspect the payment asset and cost. Do not assume the option exists for every transfer. Gas depends on chain and operation; no fixed balance here is presented as permanently sufficient.
Generate a compatible deposit at the destination first. A previous deposit does not prove that route remains active.
Select asset and network on the exchange and copy the current deposit address. In MetaMask, choose that network’s token, open Send and paste the recipient. Review amount, chain and transaction cost before approving. For USDT returning to LBank, follow the USDT deposit tutorial. For buying before withdrawal, see Ethereum exchanges.
Retain enough gas or inspect an alternative fee option offered for that transaction. If pending, check its status before repeating. Connecting a wallet, approving token spending and transferring assets are different actions: a centralised exchange can receive a deposit without you authorising a website to spend tokens. Account security helps distinguish access from authorisation.
Review these points before taking the next step.
Small checks for a more considered decision.

Use the contract to identify a token, not as your withdrawal recipient.
The token can remain visible while an ordinary send lacks its fee balance.
A normal withdrawal needs a compatible address. Connecting or signing on another site is not a required part of receiving it.
No. This guide focuses on EVM chains, while the product also supports other networks. Check their address and workflow rather than reusing another chain’s instructions.
Only when the operation and configuration offer a compatible gas-included option. An ordinary native-fee send needs that chain’s gas coin.
No. It changes token display only. Check hash, chain and recipient first to establish where the funds are.
