Best exchanges to buy Optimism (OP)

Choosing where to buy OP means separating the Optimism token from networks built with OP Stack. We compare three spot markets and their funding, including delivery to the correct network and the ETH needed to move OP.

Best exchanges to buy Optimism (OP)

Bybit EU/USDC, Bitvavo/EUR and international LBank/USDT. OP is compared as a spot token, without assuming support for every OP Stack chain.

OP Mainnet uses ETH for gas. Buying OP does not itself supply that balance or a cross-network bridge.

How we build this selection

The comparison follows the budget from funding currency to received OP, with networks and gas kept separate.

Bybit retains commercial priority without being presented as universally cheapest. EUR and USDT provide verified alternative routes.

Methodology →Transparency →
  • Spot access

OP/USDC, OP/EUR and OP/USDT on their respective products.

  • Complete budget

Conversion, trading and withdrawal charges assessed separately.

  • OP Mainnet

Receiving network and token representation without mixing other L2s.

  • Subsequent operations

ETH for gas and the actual movements needed after purchase.

Buying OP does not mean choosing any Optimism-based network

OP is the asset traded by these platforms. OP Mainnet is a specific network; OP Stack is technology used by several chains. An application supporting OP Stack does not thereby accept your OP withdrawal over every network. Before comparing exchanges, decide whether to keep the balance there or receive OP in an OP Mainnet wallet.

This also avoids buying OP when the real need is ETH for transaction fees. The Ethereum buying guide complements the purchase if you need gas, but choosing ETH requires checking receipt again: Ethereum ETH and OP Mainnet ETH are separate balances.

Bybit EU: OP with a USDC trading balance

OP/USDC is the verified Bybit EU market. It fits an existing USDC funding balance and a preference for a spot order rather than futures exposure. The initial 0.25% reference represents 1.50 USDC on a 600 USDC fill. It excludes the price of converting euros and any subsequent withdrawal charge.

A limit defines the price you accept but can remain unfilled. The product’s initial maker and taker rates are equal, so selecting a limit should not be sold as a fee saving. The brand’s international-book conditions are not transferred to an EU account.

Bitvavo for buying OP with euros

OP/EUR is active in category A. A bank-funded route can be tracked in one currency until OP is acquired. On a €1,200 notional fill, entry maker pricing at 0.15% would be €1.80 and taker at 0.25% would be €3. These are hypothetical execution examples, not price forecasts or guarantees that a limit will fill.

Asset information identifies the OP network, with transfers operational at the check. If delivery to OP Mainnet is the objective, review the current charge and amount received. For small purchases, that component may matter more than the maker/taker difference.

LBank: converting USDT you already hold

OP/USDT converts an LBank balance without first moving it to another platform. The published spot taker range is 0.10–0.20%; consult the pair for the effective rate. For holding OP in a wallet, compare purchase and delivery together. A crypto deposit with no LBank fee does not mean the USDT sender charges nothing.

Receiving OP and retaining ETH to move it

On OP Mainnet, OP’s contract is 0x4200…0042 (shortened address) and the network chain ID is 10. These identify the asset in a compatible wallet but do not prove exchange support for every withdrawal route. Check the offered network and expected token before confirming.

Gas is paid in ETH, not OP. Receiving only OP without ETH on that network can leave the token visible but without the balance needed for a subsequent transaction. The Optimism buying guide covers delivery checks; MetaMask and exchanges explains receipt without mixing network balances.

Which route fits your balance and wallet?

Bybit EU fits available USDC and a controlled spot purchase; Bitvavo makes euros spent versus OP purchased easy to compare; LBank uses USDT without unnecessary preliminary transfers. For external OP use, include delivery and ETH gas. The practical exchange completes that route with fewer avoidable costs, rather than advertising the most networks overall.

Frequently asked questions

Do OP Mainnet and OP Stack mean the same thing?

No. OP Mainnet is a network; OP Stack is used to build different chains. Do not assume shared balances or deposit routes.

Which option offers OP/EUR?
